What Should I Expect In Therapy?

Assessment Session

Assessment sessions last 75-90 minutes.  You will meet the therapist in a calm relaxing setting where you will have an opportunity to tell your story and share your expectations for therapy.  You will complete an information packet and your therapist will ask you some basic questions.

Goals and Objectives Established

After the assessment session where you share with your therapist what you hope to achieve through the process, your therapist will use her expertise and your input to develop therapeutic goals and objectives.

Individual, Couple, or Group Sessions

Individual sessions typically last 50-60 minutes.  On the average, clients meet six to ten sessions in order to achieve their goals.  It is not uncommon, however, for a client to need fewer or more sessions.  Other family members may be included in individual sessions for support and/or encouragement as appropriate.

Couple sessions will be designed according to the needs of the couple.  Couple may meet together and/or separately in order to achieve the goals of the marriage.  Separate sessions are tailored for balance to maintain equity in the process.

Group sessions become necessary when the entire family is in crises.
